Recently Completed Commission Reflects Japanese Heritage

My clients recently remodeled their home and were looking for art to inspire and accent their primary living space. Much of their interior elements and decor showcased a Japanese heritage and love of the shapes and cultural connectivity of bamboo. The sculpture I created is an abstract representation of bamboo stocks and leaves accentuated by a red sun. I chose to incorporate texture throughout the piece as a homage to traditional Japanese brush painting and calligraphy. Detail photos of the installation can be seen below. Additional photos of the piece can be found on the main sculpture page: AMY Commission

Zoot Art Gallery, Flow State: Sculptural Works by Kurt Palmquist

I’d like to thank Zoot Art Gallery for giving me the opportunity to share my work the local art community. My sculpture looked great in their space. The art community is lucky to have such a great space to exhibit and a local business to support them. Special thanks to all those who helped me install the show and organize the opening!

This exhibit explored the fluidity between mind and body during the creative process. Flow state, a period of energized focus, full involvement and enjoyment, occurs when we find ourselves “in the zone” during creative activity.

Sculpture Exhibited at Theory Hair Salon

Special thanks to Trevor and the gang at Theory Hair Salon for exhibiting my work. Their space provided an excellent backdrop and working environment for my sculpture. I hope everyone passing through enjoyed viewing my sculpture while it was there.

Solo Exhibition EMERGENCE at the Emerson Center

My first solo exhibition, “Emergence”, was featured at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture, in Bozeman, Montana. The exhibition ran March 1 through April 23rd, 2021 in the Lobby and Weaver Room Galleries.

While my primary focus is on dimensional wall sculptures, I have developed a visual language that extends beyond them and connects my paintings, digital prints and photography. This exhibition explored my work in this area over the past several years.
